The Grad-Link Programme in the Department of Germanic Studies

The GradLink Programme provides a social networking forum using blogs and wikis for students and graduates of the Department of Germanic Studies. It is the only programme of its kind in College, bringing together present and former students to share experiences both of university study and of the world of work. It is open only to students and graduates of the Department. We hope that you will use GradLink as a personal development and/or career management tool and to find out what our graduates are doing.

Who is Grad-Link for and who are the mentors?

GradLink is open to all SF, JS and SS students in the department of Germanic Studies. It is particularly useful for students who are inquisitive about the world of work and for those who are interested in learning from the experiences of graduates who have successfully completed a similar degree programme.

The participating graduates have studied TSM; Business Studies and German; Law and German; Computer Science, Linguistics and German; European Studies; Germanic Languages. They have worked for a number of years since leaving College and are eager to share their experiences with undergraduates. Some are based in Ireland, others work abroad.

What can I learn from Grad-Link?

* Benefit from the advisor's experience of the year abroad;
* Identify additional skills & qualifications that will enhance career options;
* Gain an insight into the advisor's work and the personal characteristics it calls for;
* Identify new careers using Law and German, e.g. Internet Law;
* Gain assistance for promoting oneself at interview.

How do I get involved?
