About Us
The Chair of German at Trinity College, founded 1776, is thought to be the oldest in the world. The Department today combines the strengths of this tradition with a modern, dynamic, interdisciplinary approach to Germanic Studies. We teach and research in German language, literature, culture and society, German business studies and intercultural communication, and German law. The staff of the Department currently consists currently of six Professors, a German language Teaching Fellow, Lektors for German and German Law, and also a number of part-time staff, postdoctoral research fellows and research associates. We also offer a thriving Dutch evening class programme.
There are about 300 students in the Department,
- taking undergraduate courses in: Joint Honors (German plus one other subject);European Studies; Middle Eastern and European Languages and Cultures, Business Studies and German; Law and German.
- or studying for research degrees of MLitt and PhD
