The Joly Geological Society
“The Joly” is the College’s geological society. Our aim is to inspire, enlighten and entertain its members with the rich history and workings of our dynamic planet Earth through a range of relaxed topical talks, numerous social events, and field trips throughout Ireland.
The Joly Geological Society hosts a range of events for its members throughout the college year, attracting undergraduate and postgraduate students from a whole variety of disciplines from Zoology to Business. Our events are aimed at anyone with an interest in the history and evolution of the earth, as well as more specialist areas such as mineral, hydrocarbon and petroleum exploration. In the past, we have held talks featuring guest speakers with diverse academic and industry backgrounds ranging from college alumni to renowned international researchers to managers of gold mines. Previous talks have featured specialists working in areas such as non-renewable energy, geophysics, and mapping software, to name but a few. The Joly has a vibrant social calendar throughout the year to bring members together in a fun environment. Previous events have included table quizzes, movie nights and our famous GPS Pub Crawl! We also run exciting field trips during the year that are a great way to get outdoors and make new friends.
Join The Joly! Sign up to become a member during Freshers Week at our society stand. You can also sign up at any point throughout the college year by coming along to any one of our events and asking a committee member. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to send us an email.
