Undergraduate Study

Undergraduate study in the School of Genetics and Microbiology begins with students applying for the Biological and Biomedical Sciences stream. Following two years of general science study, students then apply to specialise in their chosen field, subject to demand.

Our three moderatorships are high-quality and high-demand programmes, where we have a strong tradition of research-led education.

Genetics and Human Genetics

Undergraduate students can study either Genetics or Human Genetics thorugh the B.A. (Moderatorship) degree course. Students intially appy for Biological and Biomedical Sciences before choosing to specialise in Genetics or Human Genetics at the beginning of the Junior Sophister (3rd) year.

Microbiology

Following on from the first two years of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Microbiology is a two-year moderatorship course that encompasses microbial and molecular genetics, microbial genomics, cellular and molecular biology, microbial pathogenesis, medical microbiology, immunology, virology, applied aspects of microbiology and biotechnology. Senior Sophister (4th year) students study in specialised areas of modern microbiology and carry out a full-time, nine-week research project.

Erasmus and Study Abroad Opportunities

We offer our undergraduate students the opportunity to partake in Erasmus and Study Abroad programmes during their Senior Sophister year.
