Electrical Services
The Electrical services section will strive to bring the college into compliance with electrical safety regulations and standards as set out in the (national Rules for Electrical Installation Irish Standard I.S 10101:2020) while also being in accordance with safe Electric Ireland policies.
One of the main objectives is the bring the college's current emergency lighting installations up to I.S. 3217:2023. The Electrical services section will also undertake projects from the feasibility phase to design, tendering, procurement, and managing of on-site works.
During these projects, they will work closely with the contractors, suppliers, energy department, and technical services team to achieve the best results possible for the college.
The electrical services section is also responsible for implementing a periodic checks and testing programme that identifies which buildings are in the most need of electrical upgrades be that rewiring, distribution board upgrades, or a full new installation.
They are responsible for ensuring all new installations and upgrades are documented with test verification sheets and commissioning certs. etc. and recorded in a shared folder for technical services.
They will also work with capital projects on larger projects and be involved in buildings becoming part of the colleges MV ring network. This involves working with switchgear specialists and contractors. They are also involved in signing off on projects during handovers.
They will work with the college fire officer in bringing the colleges electrical life safety systems into compliance. This involves the servicing and testing of fire alarms, AOV / (air pressurisations systems), Generators, etc.
They will also be responsible for a programme of works for upgrading the fire alarm systems in most need of repair. As part of the Engineering & Maintenance services team, they will be involved in expanding the service contracts for the life safety systems and compiling asset lists for the tendering of such service contracts.
Electrical work has many potential hazards if not done safely, they will strive for ensuring the highest possible safety standards by revising contractor RAMS with the college safety department, the electrical services manager will also carry out random audits of contractors work to ensure best practices of electrical safety are being followed.
