Acting Equality Officer
As Acting Equality Officer, Joel works to promote equality, belonging, and non-discrimination for Trinity staff, students, and the wider Trinity community, in all areas of university life and with particular regard to the protected grounds in equality legislation.
Prior to joining the EDI Office, Joel has worked in a range of roles focused on fostering excellence in higher education by enabling diversity and belonging on campus.
Joel was the inaugural coordinator of the Laidlaw Leadership and Research Scholarship at Trinity based in the Careers Service. In this role he managed leadership skills development activities, programme design, student coaching and pastoral support, and Trinity's contribution to the international network of research-intensive universities participating in the programme.
He has worked in Trinity's Academic Registry as a Team Manager (Communications and Human Resources) with a focus on developing modern and inclusive support services for students and staff, including the implementation of the first Gender Identity and Expression Policy.
He is a founder and current Co-Chair of Trinity's LGBT+ Staff Network which is amongst the leading employee affinity groups at institutional and sectoral level.
A graduate of Trinity, he holds a B.A. (Mod.) in English Studies, a Special Certificate in Academic Practice, and a nominal Master in Arts (Dubl.) from the university as well as a Diploma in Learning and Development (CIPD).
