Intersectionality in Higher Education with Dr Phil Mullen & Aliyah Sy

In this Trinity Inclusive Curriulum Lunchtime Seminar, Dr Phil Mullen, Assistant Professor of Black Studies, Trinity College Dublin, and Aliyah Sy, Master's student in Identities and Cultures of Europe, Trinity College Dublin, explored what is meant by intersectionality, and how it can play out in the experiences of students in Higher Education.

Queer Inclusion - In Higher Education, Healthcare, and Beyond.

The Trinity Inclusive Curriculum Project and Faculty of Health Sciences EDI Group collaboratively held a Pride Month seminar on Queer Inclusion as part of the Trinity-INC Lunchtime Online Seminar Series. The seminar was delivered by Dr Duncan Shrewsbury (he/him), Senior Lecturer in General Practice at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion in Higher Education Policy.

As part of the Trinity Inclusive Curriculum 'Food for Thought' Lunchtime Seminar Series, Dr. Ross Woods, HEA Centre of Excellence for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, joined Professor Lorraine Leeson, Associate Vice Provost for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Trinity College Dublin, to discuss a vision for meaningful equality, diversity and inclusion within Higher Education policy.

Creating Accessible Content in a Blackboard Module

As part of Accessible Information Week 2022, Trinity-INC presented a short Skills Session focusing on how to create a clear, accessible module in Blackboard. Dr Jacqueline Whelan, School Nursing and Midwifery and Trinity-INC School Champion, presented her approach, with contributions from two other Trinity-INC School Champions.

Overcoming Sexism and Racism in Higher Education

This webinar explored sexism, racism and class, and how their intersections specifically affect women from ethnic minority backgrounds in higher education. Keynote speakers include Dr Ebun Joseph (Institute of Antiracism and Black Studies, Ireland) and Dr Keisha Lindsay (University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA) who spoke on the topic of Black and ethnic minority women in higher education in Ireland and the US.

External Seminars / Talks

This lecture provides an understanding of the importance of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in the context of increasingly diverse student populations. Hosted by School of Education, Trinity College Dublin, and supported by the Ireland Canada University Foundation D’Arcy McGee Beacon Fellowship. Chaired by Dr Joanne Banks with introductions from James Kelly, CEO Ireland Canada University Foundation, and Dr Rachel Hoare, Project Director Trinity Inclusive Curriculum. The lecture website has recordings from the lecture as well as other video and written resources.

Speaking at the 31st Annual EAIE Conference and Exhibition, Cairo addressed the conference theme of encompassing all voices by speaking about how education systems tend to elevate the stories of dominant groups. She called upon all in attendance to have the care, courage and humility that it takes to fight marginalisation.
