The project is a collaboration will Elisabetta Magnanti of the University of Vienna. Using Handwritten Text Recognition Technology (HTR), the project will test and tune the performance of Faulkner and Magnanti’s existing model, trained on twelfth-century manuscripts, on a representative range of manuscripts from the eighth to eleventh centuries.
New Machine-Learning Project Funded by Long Room Hub Research Incentive Scheme
Dr Mark Faulkner, Ussher Assistant Professor in Medieval English, has just been awarded Trinity Long Room Hub Research Incentive Scheme funding for Ansund, a project applying machine learning to manuscripts written in Old English, the earliest phase of written English (c. 600-1150).
