The Trinity College Dublin School of Engineering is proud to announce the recipients of the prestigious Eric & Barbara Kinsella Scholarships for 2024. The six talented scholars were honoured at a celebratory reception held this week, attended by faculty, current and former Kinsella scholars, alumni, and members of the Kinsella family and Esprit Investments, who have generously supported this transformative scholarship programme since its inception in 2014.

This year's recipients—Cormac Alfred, Julianne Cronin, Genevieve Flynn, Chingun Purevdondov, Conor Quinn, and Eoghan Táilliúir—were recognised for their academic excellence, leadership potential, and dedication to engineering. The event highlighted not only their remarkable achievements but also the lasting impact of the Kinsella Scholarships on the engineering community at Trinity.

Speaking at the event, Professor Alan O’Connor, Head of the School of Engineering, congratulated the new scholars and expressed gratitude to Eric and Barbara Kinsella for their unwavering commitment to nurturing future engineering leaders.

Professor O’Connor remarked,

“The Kinsella Scholarships have become a cornerstone of our commitment to supporting exceptional students. These scholarships empower talented individuals to excel academically and develop into leaders who will shape the future of engineering. We are deeply grateful to Eric and Barbara Kinsella and Esprit Investments for their continued support and vision.”

About the Eric & Barbara Kinsella Scholarships

Open to second-year students enrolled in the Engineering (BAI/MAI) or Engineering with Management (BSc(Ing)/MAI) programmes, the Kinsella Scholarships provide financial support to high-achieving students who demonstrate exceptional promise. Applicants must have successfully completed their first year with a minimum of a second-class honours.

Established in 2014 by Eric and Barbara Kinsella, the scholarships award each recipient €5,000 annually for the remaining years of their degree, up to four years. This financial support allows students to focus on their studies, pursue research opportunities, and engage in extracurricular activities that enhance their academic experience and professional development.

Since the programme’s launch, 47 scholarships have been awarded, with the aim of maintaining a cohort of at least 20 scholars at any given time within the School of Engineering. The scholarships have had a profound impact on the recipients, many of whom have gone on to achieve notable success in their careers and contribute significantly to the field of engineering.

As the School of Engineering continues to grow and excel, the Eric & Barbara Kinsella Scholarships remain a testament to the power of philanthropy in fostering academic excellence and shaping the future of engineering at Trinity College Dublin.

Congratulations once again to the 2024 Kinsella Scholars—your achievements are an inspiration to us all!
