A group of 9 people at the inaugural IEEE Threesis event in Trinity College Dublin

The IEEE Student Branch of Trinity College Dublin has announced the successful conclusion of its inaugural IEEE Threesis event, held on February 15th, 2023, in Room 2.05, Áras an Phiarsaigh, Trinity College Dublin.

 

The event, which is the annual event of the local IEEE Student Branch, is aimed at post-graduate students and researchers who are invited to present an accessible 3-minute presentation of their research. The event was open-to-all with 40 attendees, consisting of a broad pool of audience members.

The event spanned over an hour and consisted of 9 presentations from various Departments and Schools in the college. After the presentation, the audience engaged in questions and discussions with the speakers. The presentations were judged by a panel of three experts.

The Three Winners, are:

  • Olivia Butler, a PhD student from the Electronic and Electrical Engineering Department and Connect, secured the first prize speaking about her research entitled “Monitoring the performance of future optical networks”
  • Róisín Gowen, a PhD student from the Civil Engineering department, secured the second prize for her presentation on “Determining the potential co-benefits for biodiversity and renewable energy production on solar farms located on agricultural land in Ireland”
  • Meegan Gower, a PhD student in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, obtained the audience choice award for her presentation on “360 Audio Visual Analysis for Monitoring Biodiversity”

The Electronic and Electrical Engineering department supported the event with prizes and refreshments for the participants and audience.

The Trinity College IEEE Student Branch Chair, Vibhoothi, thanked everyone involved, including all of the speakers and judges for their time and effort, the audience for their interest and engaging questions, and the Electronic and Electrical Engineering Department for attending and supporting the event.
