The Dŵr Uisce project led by Trinity College Dublin in partnership with Bangor University, has run for over six years and has made significant impactful contributions on the sustainability of the water related energy use in Ireland and Wales. The multidisciplinarity project has been led by Dr. Aonghus McNabola, Dr John Gallagher and Prof. Biswajit Basu in the School of Engineering, and Prof. Paul Coughlan in the Trinity Business School.

To date the project has delivered the installation of two demonstrations of micro-hydropower energy recovery in Ireland and Wales, reducing the energy needs of local water treatment facilities by up to 20%. The project has also delivered the installation of two demonstrations of wastewater heat recovery in Ireland and Wales, reducing the energy needs for water heating in commercial kitchens and industrial food production.

This event consolidates and celebrates the research-based achievements, marks the closure of the project, and looks ahead to the continuing transition towards net zero water systems.

The Dŵr Uisce project was funded by the Interreg Ireland Wales programme and in the spirit of Ireland-Wales cooperation this final project event will also strike a celebratory musical tone to mark the closure of the project and programme.
