Biography

Majella Henchion is an ESB Senior Manager responsible for Technical Capability across ESB Group. A UCD mechanical engineer with a masters from Manchester University, she is a Fellow of Engineers Ireland. Since 1990 she has worked in a wide variety of technical, managerial and strategic roles across ESB. 
In recent years she has held roles as varied as Plant Manager of Turlough Hill and Liffey Stations (a pumped storage station located at the Wicklow Gap and three hydro stations on the Liffey), Health and Safety Manager for ESB’s Generation business, Strategic Human Resources Projects Manager, Programme Owner for ESB Networks and Strategic Craft Capability Development Manager for ESB Networks.  
Her current role involves ensuring ESB has the right technical personnel (numbers and abilities) to develop, build, operate and maintain an electrical utility operating across generation, transmission, distribution and supply streams. This includes engineers of various disciplines, architects, environmental scientists, quantity surveyors, planners, CAD technicians, technologists, surveyors, geologists, marine biologists and many more.  


Majella is very active in Engineers Ireland where she works on accreditation of degrees, promotion of membership and assessment of Chartered Engineer applications. She is a member of both Council and Executive, and Vice-Chair of the Membership and Qualifications Board. She is also on the CPD Standing Committee, the STEPS Industry Advisory Group and the Academic Society Committee. She was the founding Chair of the Inclusion and Diversity Society and a committee member of the Engineers Ireland Benevolent Fund from 2011 to 2024.  


Majella is the most recent past President of the UCD’s Engineering Graduates.
