
Biography
Cathal McCabe is the AMD University Program Director for the Americas, EMEA, and India, based in AMD’s Dublin, Ireland office. He leads efforts to support universities and research institutions in leveraging AMD’s cutting-edge technologies—from CPUs and GPUs to FPGAs and Adaptive SoCs—for teaching, learning, and advanced research.
Cathal joined AMD through the Xilinx acquisition, where he previously led the Xilinx University Program (XUP) in EMEA. In this role, he developed and delivered training on the latest Xilinx tools and technologies, provided hands-on support to researchers, and was responsible for industrial-academic collaborations and special academic programs. Before joining at Xilinx,
Cathal was the Europractice Technical Manager at STFC (formerly CCLRC), focusing on FPGA, embedded systems, and ESL design support for academic institutions across Europe.
Beyond his professional roles, Cathal has contributed as an advisor for several international research projects and has served as a peer reviewer for multiple international conferences and publications. He also co-chairs the AMD Ireland employee led community outreach program and is passionate about volunteering and supporting the promotion of STEM to young people.
