ICON Project Overview

The ICON project aims to revolutionise integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) through the development of intelligent, intent-based optical network. At its core, ICON focuses on flexible physical layer sensing solutions, efficient processing and interpretation of sensing data using advanced algorithms and machine learning, and developing intelligent control platform. This enables rapid event detection, reduced data volumes, and seamless integration with network management and external systems—such as critical infrastructures management systems —while maintaining energy efficiency and high accuracy.

ICON will deliver a smart control platform that enables context-aware and intent-driven sensing, optimising signal routing and system responsiveness. By reducing false alarms and increasing operational efficiency, the platform enhances precision across multiple sensing applications.

The project’s impact will be demonstrated through experimental and real-world field trials, integrating physical sensors, intelligent control, and network systems. These validations will showcase the reliability, security, and resilience of ICON’s JC&S capabilities in practical settings.
