Biography

Suzanne McCanney is the Specialist Lead for Autism in the National Council for Special Education. Leading the practice autism practice in the NCSE which supports schools' capacity to include all students. She has been in this role since 2020. With a vision of creating educational landscapes that embrace neurodiversity, Suzanne, has accumulated a wealth of experience over 15 years in roles dedicated to special education. Through roles in Midldletown Centre for Autism, Special Education Support Service and as a teacher she honed her expertise in developing specialised support programmes, fostering inclusive classrooms, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to design personalised learning pathways. At the heart of Suzanne's approach lies a deep respect for each individual's unique journey. Her philosophy centres on the belief that every person, regardless of their abilities, deserves a chance to learn and grow in an environment that celebrates their strengths and supports their challenges. By fostering a culture of empathy, patience, and continuous learning, Suzanne has positively impacted the lives of students, families, and educators.
