Biography

Margaret Murray is a community worker who has been employed by the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) since 2003. As NALA’s Literacy Student and Development Officer her work is about ensuring that students’ views feed into NALA’s work. This work involves linking with NALA’s Student Subcommittee from our Board, managing a fund that goes to local centres for non-tuition student activity and organising two national student days a year. A new role in 2022 means Margaret is actively building awareness about unmet literacy needs with educators and Traveller groups. Other roles she previously has held in NALA include membership officer, development officer for the Help My Kid Learn website and regional development worker. Before NALA, she worked as a community worker in Community Development Projects and did youth work for a year also. Margaret has a Post Graduate Diploma in Community and Youth Work from NUIM Maynooth and a BA in Sociology and Politics, and Human Geography from NUI Galway.
