Biography
Elaine Sheridan has worked in education for over 25 years, initially as a teacher of Geography and Economics, a post from which she was seconded to the Leaving Certificate Geography Support Service in 2003. After serving as an Inspector with the Department of Education, she joined the State Examinations Commission (SEC) in 2008 as an Examinations and Assessment Manager. She is currently the Head of the SEC's Examinations and Assessment Division (EAD), having previously held the position of Assistant Head. As Head of the EAD, Elaine has overseen a considerable expansion of the Division, as well as playing a significant role in the provision of both the Calculated and Accredited Grades systems implemented during the Covid pandemic. She has also been instrumental in the SEC’s transition from paper-based examination marking to a system of online marking. Elaine holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and Economics and a H.Dip Ed, as well as an M.Phil in Geography from UCC. In 2020 she was awarded an MSc in Educational Assessment from the University of Oxford, and she also holds a certificate in Leadership and Strategy from the Institute of Public Administration.
