For two days, the third floor of the Arts Building was transformed into a vibrant hub of movement, creativity, and collaboration. Teachers, theatre and drama facilitators, students and researchers gathered to experience the dynamic physical theatre techniques of Frantic Assembly.
With more than 30 years of experience, Frantic Assembly has become one of the UK’s most celebrated theatre companies, renowned for its inclusive, collaborative, and physically daring approach. Their workshops empower participants to tell stories in new ways, breaking down barriers between disciplines and fostering deeper connections through movement.
These workshops provided a unique opportunity to explore cutting-edge physical theatre techniques while engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration with teachers, creatives, and researchers from diverse fields and nationalities.
Led by experienced practitioner Steve Kirkham, this was Frantic Assembly’s first-ever workshop in Ireland. Each day began with an energising warm-up, set to Steve’s carefully curated playlist, setting the tone for an engaging and inclusive experience. Almost 50 participants engaged in an immersive exploration of the company’s signature methods, including home chairs, squeezes, corridors, basic lifts and much more. Through a blend of physical exercises, storytelling, and structured movement, attendees gained valuable insights and practical tools to incorporate into their own teaching and creative practices.
With overwhelming interest, the enthusiasm for Frantic was evident, and many attendees expressed hope for a return visit.
We hope to welcome Frantic Assembly back to Dublin soon!
