Postgraduate Research Annual Conference 2022

The School of Education Post Graduate Research Conference Committee 2022 is delighted to announce the call for abstracts for the 13th annual PGR Conference taking place in-person on campus on Saturday 21st May 2022.

Reflecting on the impact of the global pandemic on the education community, this year’s conference seeks to highlight research which addresses the theme “(Re)building Education: Begin again, begin better”.

We welcome submissions from current and recent doctoral students in the School of Education and beyond.

Building on the work of previous committees, we are committed to creating an event which is accessible and welcome your suggestions.

Conference Format

  • Oral papers
  • Flipped papers
  • Posters
  • Lightning talks

 

Oral papers

  • Each presenter will be allotted 15 minutes
  • Your presentation will be grouped with 3-4 other similar presentations
  • The group of presentations will be followed by questions and discussion for 15-20 minutes
  • Presentations may be recorded

Flipped papers

  • Using a "flipped classroom" approach, presenters will submit a recording of their paper (15 mins max) which will be shared via the conference programme and posted to the conference website in advance of the conference
  • On the day of the conference, similarly themed papers will be grouped together for a longer panel discussion which will be chaired

Posters

  • Academic posters will adhere to the guidelines (forthcoming)
  • Posters will be displayed in an exhibition space in the conference venue and online on the conference webpage
  • Participants will be asked to vote for the best poster and a prize will be given for the poster receiving the highest number of votes

Lightning Talks

  • Each presentation will have a maximum of three slides
  • Submissions will take the form of a Powerpoint presentation submitted in advance
  • The time is set at five minutes per presentation

General Guidelines for Submissions:

  • For standardisation, abstracts will be limited to a maximum of 250 words (excluding title)
  • Presenter biographies should be maximum 150 words
  • Abstracts will be published on the conference webpage, papers may be also be requested for publication
  • Social media will be used over the course of the conference.  If a participant has any concerns, please contact the organising committee
  • Authors of presentations will be required to adhere to the Powerpoint and timing guidelines

Reviewing

  • All submissions will be reviewed in accordance with the conference theme
  • Submitters can indicate a preference for the paper format. However, the conference committee reserves the right to request that the abstract be assigned to an alternate formats. 
  • Conference materials, including Powerpoint slides, may be published on the dedicated conference webpage
