Today marks a significant milestone in Trinity College Dublin's commitment to sustainability education! Prof. Jane Stout, VP for Biodiversity & Climate Action, and colleagues from various disciplines launched the first iteration of our hashtagESD interdisciplinary initiative: ‘𝑬𝒏𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑬𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑺𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑫𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝑻𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚: 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝑴𝒐𝒅𝒖𝒍𝒆/𝑪𝒖𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒖𝒎 𝑫𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏’.

As part of Trinity’s Education for Sustainable Development work programme and Sustainability Strategy, Trinity is dedicated to enabling all undergraduate students, regardless of degree programme, to complete interdisciplinary modules that address ESD themes and develop key competencies for sustainability.

To support this goal, Trinity has developed a novice-level undergraduate module titled "𝑬𝒏𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑬𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑺𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑫𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕." Created by a team of staff and students from across our faculties, this module is grounded in interdisciplinarity and designed for any academic staff member to teach within their own programmes, either as a core freshman module or as a Trinity elective.

𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬:
𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘚𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵: Teaching staff will experience the module from a student’s perspective.
𝘗𝘦𝘥𝘢𝘨𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘈𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘴: Explore the teaching strategies used in its design.
𝘈𝘥𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘋𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺: Learn how to adapt the module for their own disciplinary contexts.
𝘌𝘚𝘋 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺: Engage in a growing ESD community of practice at Trinity.

This initiative is a crucial step towards embedding sustainability into the educational experience of all Trinity students, preparing them to contribute positively to a sustainable future.

Congratulations from everyone at E3, Trinity College Dublin.
