CATAGEN Limited: Pioneering Sustainable Aviation Fuel Development with EU SAF Clearing House

CATAGEN Limited, a trailblazer in Net Zero technologies, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first company to submit a sample of its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to the newly established EU SAF Clearing House. This momentous event marks a crucial step towards the widespread adoption of cleaner, more sustainable aviation fuels.

The EU SAF Clearing House, inaugurated in July 2024, serves as a pivotal institution in the sustainable aviation fuel sector. Under the leadership of Dr. Stephen Dooley from Trinity College Dublin, the Clearing House is designed to facilitate the development and deployment of SAF by offering comprehensive support to producers. This includes guidance through the ASTM D4054 evaluation process, essential testing and prescreening, and assistance with sustainability certification.

Dr. Dooley emphasised the Clearing House's mission, stating, "Launched in July 2024, the EU SAF Clearing House is here to guide SAF producers in the development and deployment of sustainable aviation fuels. The Clearing House is a one-stop-shop providing everything SAF Producers need for ASTM D4054 evaluation, including testing and prescreening, and everything needed for sustainability certification. We are thrilled to welcome CATAGEN into the Prescreening service and look forward to supporting them in the development and deployment of their product."

CATAGEN Limited's submission of their SAF sample underscores the company's commitment to advancing sustainable aviation technologies. As a leader in Net Zero technologies, CATAGEN is dedicated to creating innovative solutions that significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The company's SAF is designed as a direct replacement for conventional fossil-based jet fuel. It can be used in existing aircraft without requiring modifications, providing a practical and immediate solution to lower emissions in the aviation industry. By utilising SAF, airlines can significantly cut down on their carbon footprint, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel represents a critical advancement in the quest for greener aviation. Unlike traditional jet fuels, SAF is derived from renewable resources and has the potential to reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80%. The development and adoption of SAF are essential for the aviation industry to meet international carbon reduction targets and transition towards more sustainable practices.

The EU SAF Clearing House plays a crucial role in this transition by streamlining the certification and approval processes, ensuring that SAF producers meet rigorous safety and sustainability standards. This facilitates the rapid scaling of SAF production and usage, paving the way for a more sustainable future in aviation.

The partnership between CATAGEN Limited and the EU SAF Clearing House marks a significant step forward in the sustainable aviation fuel sector. By leveraging the resources and expertise provided by the Clearing House, CATAGEN is well-positioned to bring their SAF to market, contributing to the global effort to reduce aviation emissions.

As the first company to submit a sample to the EU SAF Clearing House, CATAGEN sets a precedent for other SAF producers. This collaboration not only highlights the potential of sustainable aviation fuels but also demonstrates the critical role of regulatory and support institutions in fostering innovation and sustainability in the aviation industry.
