Dr Peter Harrison, an assistant professor/lecturer in the Division of Restorative Dentistry & Periodontology, was the recipient of a prestigious research award at the Annual Congress of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) in Vancouver in June.
Dr Harrison received the €10,000 IADR Karring-Nyman Sunstar Guidor Award, which aims to support research within the field of oral tissue regeneration achieved through international collaboration. Dr Harrison is completing his PhD on the use of leukocyte and platelet rich fibrin (L-PRF) for regeneration of bone defects around teeth and dental implants. The L-PRF technique uses a small blood sample donated by the patient to create a natural graft material that can be used to enhance both hard and soft tissue healing.
