Who is this Micro-credential for?
- This micro-credential in Climate Leadership Development is specifically designed for public-sector and private enterprise professionals seeking to up-skill in areas of climate leadership and sustainability.
- Given that climate change and biodiversity loss affects all parts of society and all sectors, the micro-credential targets all public and private sectors.
Why should I take this Micro-credential?
- Climate change poses a major challenges to society. It is a complex, multi-faceted challenge that can only be addressed using a coordinated and systemic approach applied on a variety of levels, and across a variety of sectors.
- This micro-credential provides an opportunity to develop your leadership skills at an individual or organisational level, to help address the global climate challenge.
- You will have an opportunity to network with like-minded individuals, and collaborate with others, across a range of sectors.
- You can apply the course theory to a real-world workplace challenge.
When can I start this Micro-credential?
- There are two intakes; in September and February.
What do I need to be accepted onto this Micro-credential?
- Applicants must either have a minimum 2.2 grade in a level 8 degree, or demonstrate equivalent professional experience.
- Applicants without a level 8 degree may apply through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) route. Further information on RPL can be found at https://www.tcd.ie/academic-services/hci/rpl/index.php
- All applications must include a cover letter, CV, transcript or RPL documentation.
What Will I Learn?
On successful completion of this micro-credential, learners will be able to:
- Evaluate and apply a range of standard and specialised knowledge and tools for effective climate leadership.
- Lead and initiate climate action activity to take significant responsibility for the work of individuals and groups.
- Understand and reflect on public and corporate norms for sustainability and climate action and take action to change them where appropriate.
- Identify methods to self-evaluate and take responsibility for continuing academic/professional development.
- Utilise a Systems Thinking approach to demonstrate climate leadership in a wide variety of professional levels and contexts.
What will I do?
This micro-credential deals with development of climate leadership skills and it will cover the following areas:
- Climate Change as a Systemic Challenge – addresses implementation challenges, the need for building climate capacity, developing multidisciplinary teams, and the need for systems thinking embedded in cross-organisational collaboration.
- Principles of Climate Leadership - we will explore the importance of integrating principles of ethics into climate leadership.
- Integrating Climate and Biodiversity into Decision Making.
- Driving behavioural change – understanding human perception from the perspective of individuals, organisations and society. How to communicate effectively both within your organisation and in your organisation’s wider sphere of impact to drive climate action.
- Policy making for Climate Action – understanding how policy is developed and what the current and possible future responsibilities are for public and private sectors.
- Curating your Climate Leadership Journey – we will explore principles and practice to create your own Climate Leadership journey.
How will this Micro-credential be delivered?
The micro-credential will be delivered fully online, during normal working hours.
The Micro-credential will include:
• Monthly webinars will address key areas of climate leadership development
• Separate check-in sessions with coaches are designed to assist with the monthly content and to support your professional development.
• A mandatory in-person networking summit will take place at the end of the course.
How is this Micro-credential assessed?
Group Presentation 30%:
The group project presentation is designed for you to demonstrate how you would apply systems thinking to overcome climate risks, and to demonstrate leadership by showcasing your climate mitigation and adaptation solutions. The presentation is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your group's impact leadership approach.
Group Report 30%:
As part of your group submission, you are required to provide a group reflective report. Your report should be approximately 2000-2500 words. Your group reflective report should clearly outline why you decided to take the strategic climate leadership approach that you outlined in your presentation.
Group reflective report: You have given your presentation to the board. The board now require you to submit a report that outlines your leadership team's rationale for taking the strategic approach that you outlined in your presentation. Your report should include reference to the latest data, research, and practice. This report can be structured in any format that you think is appropriate to best convey your why, how, and what.
Personal Action Plan 40%:
This personal action plan is designed for you to identify challenges, barriers, and opportunities for your organisation and to develop actionable goals to deliver climate action. The action plan is structured around the learning for each theme. The word count is 1500 words.
We will also have two in-person networking session close to the start and at the end of the course, these are not assessed, but an excellent opportunity to meet up with your fellow learners and collaborate on ideas, your action plan and share recommendations and support for each other.
