I explore all aspects of cycling in low-cycling contexts, with a focus on Ireland.

My interdisciplinary work is broadly situated within the mobilities paradigm, with an appreciation for the pragmatic aims and methods of transport research.

To date, I have examined:

    • The lived experience and practices of cyclists in Dublin
    • The school cycling gender gap among Irish teenagers
    • The planning of diverse cycle parking facilities and the principles of good practice
    • E-cargo bikes as a logistics vehicle for small businesses
    • Discourses of transport planning and everyday mobility in active travel planning opposition
    • E-bikes and e-cargo cycles as private transportation for individuals and families

I am an expert in qualitative methods. I have developed several grounded theories based on interview and focus group research, and have recently developed my skills in Critical Discourse Analysis. I have carried out quantitative survey research investigating cycle parking, using cluster analysis to develop a typology of cycle parking preferences. I am also experienced with ArcGIS, having used this tool to map the spatial distribution of various transport-related phenomena.
