Ms Rachel Hussey
Rachel Hussey was born in Dublin. She studied legal science at Trinity College, the University of Dublin, was elected a Scholar of the University and graduated in 1987, and was awarded a Gold Medal in Law.
Ms Hussey was called to the Irish Bar in 1989 and was awarded the Brooke Scholarship and the Honorable Society of Kings Inns’ Exhibition Prize. While studying at the King’s Inns, Ms Hussey worked as a tutor at the Law School at Trinity College Dublin and then as a researcher at the Law Reform Commission.
Ms Hussey graduated from Harvard Law School with an LLM in 1990 and was admitted to the New York Bar that year. She practised law in New York before returning to Dublin where she was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors.
Ms Hussey is Clients and Markets Partner at Arthur Cox in Dublin. She sits on the firm’s Management, Conflicts Management, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and Sustainable Business Committees.
A strong advocate for gender diversity, in the legal profession and beyond, Ms Hussey has been a member of the Steering Committee of the 30% Club Ireland since its establishment in 2015 and was Chair from 2019 to 2022. She currently represents the 30% Club on the Review Group of Balance for Better Business, having been appointed to that role in 2023 by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment. She also sits on the 30% Club’s Global Strategy Group.
Ms Hussey was elected President of the Irish Chapter of the International Women’s Forum for a two-year term from 2022 to 2024. She sat on the Governing Authority of Dublin City University from 2017 to 2023 and chaired its Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
Rachel is a governor of the National Maternity Hospital and was a member of the Board of the National Maternity Hospital Foundation from 2012 to 2017.
Rachel has four adult children, two of whom are graduates of Trinity and one of whom is currently a student at the University.
Ms Hussey was elected the 65th Pro-Chancellor of the University in 2024.
