Dr Stanley Quek
Dr Stanley Quek was born in Singapore but studied in London, UK, for his secondary school education. He was accepted by Trinity College, University of Dublin (TCD) to study Medicine in 1967 and graduated with a MA, MB, B.Ch, BAO in 1972. He has been actively involved with the university since then despite returning to Singapore where he practiced medicine till 1997.
He was appointed Honorary Consul General representing Ireland in Singapore from 1994 – May 2000 and is presently the Chairman of The Ireland Funds Singapore which has raised more than $5m since 2009 to support projects involving children with special needs and Eldercare.
For more than 30 years, Dr Quek has assisted the Irish Universities and Medical Schools Consortium in selecting and interviewing students from Singapore for medical studies in TCD, UCD, NUIG and UCC. He has also been involved in alumni activities at TCD for as many years.
He is at present the Executive Chairman of Region Development Pte Ltd, a Singapore property development company founded by him in 1987. Region Development has over the past 30 years, successfully developed residential projects in Singapore, Australia, United Kingdom, Malaysia and New Zealand.
In recent years, he has turned his attention to boutique developments with projects in Sydney, Penang, London and Dublin.
Dr Quek remains passionate about the Arts and Culture, Design and Architecture and creating sustainable and liveable communities.
He was previously a board member of the Trinity Foundation from 2008 to 2015 and is now a member of the Provost’s Council. He is a recipient of the 2007 TCD Inaugural Alumni Award and in March 2013 was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Medicine (honoris causa) by the National University of Ireland. In June 2015 he was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor in Laws (honoris causa) by Trinity College Dublin. He was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in June 2018.
Dr Quek was elected as the 61st Pro-Chancellor of the University in 2018.
