CRANN & AMBER (Advanced Materials Science & BioEngineering)

CRANN is Trinity’s largest research institute. It hosts the AMBER Centre, Ireland’s leading materials science and bioengineering research centre and offers two ’Exploring Materials’ weeks for TY students yearly, one in October and one in February. We typically take 16 students each week from different schools around the country. During their learning programme, the TY students meet our researchers in their labs in CRANN, TBSI and RCSI and our specialist facilities at Trinity East. Here, we have our Additive Research Laboratory (home to our 3-D printers) and Advanced Microscopy Laboratory where students will get to test out the capabilities of our advanced electron microscopes. Through a lively variety of tours, talks, games and hands-on activities, students learn about the basics of materials science, applying what they learn in a group Learning Showcase at the end of the week.

Applications are via an online form which can be found at: https://ambercentre.ie/engage/schools/transition-year/

*Please note we cannot accept applications via email*
