Mark Thompson

Biography

Mark Thompson began his professional career as an Industrial Relations Assistant with the Bank of England Printing Works in 1983 after taking a degree in medieval and modern history from the University of Birmingham.  He studied for the CIPD examinations (then known as the IPM) and became a full member of the Institute in 1989. 

He joined Volkswagen in the United Kingdom in 1989 and pursued a number of roles in HR before moving to Dublin as Remuneration and Benefits Manager for Telecom Eireann in 1996 where he was involved in the preparation of the company for an IPO following deregulation of the telecoms industry in Ireland.

In 1999 he returned to the UK as a Management Consultant for the Hay Group.  He has remained in consulting ever since including a stint with Hay Group’s business in India from 2007 to 2009. 

Mark is now leader of the Hay Group’s reward and benefits practice for the UK and Ireland.
