Seminar Title: HRM, well-being, and organizational performance: in search of sustainable balance

Abstract: Organizations are increasingly pressured by regulatory bodies and social stakeholders to manage their social sustainability, particularly regarding their impact on the health and well-being of their workforce. Balancing social objectives with financial objectives is a challenging yet crucial endeavor, especially in today's constantly evolving and disruptive business environment. In this talk, I will discuss how organizations can create value for their employees in addition to economic value through HRM strategies. More specifically, I will critically discuss existing research on worker well-being in the context of strategic HRM, highlighting the (inconsistent) empirical evidence in the literature to date. Additionally, I will present some ongoing work that offers insights into how HRM enactment satisfies organizations' and workers’ interests and how HRM can foster worker well-being and organizational performance simultaneously, thereby promoting a strategically balanced perspective on HRM.
