The Irish Threatened Plant Seedbank

The Irish Threatened Plant Seedbank at Trinity College Botanic Garden stores seeds at -20°C to safeguard genetic diversity and support conservation. It holds over 200 samples of 59 threatened native species, 35% of Ireland's Red List. Originally part of the EU-funded ENSCONET project, the seedbank helped standardize protocols for wild seed preservation. A donation from the Beate Schuler Fund aims to increase holdings to 50% of threatened species by 2023, with a long-term goal to conserve all native species.
