Natalie, Wai Lok Chow
Natalie, Wai Lok Chow graduated with a B.Sc. in Biology from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and furthered her studies with a Master’s in Organic Agriculture and Food Systems from the University of Hohenheim, Germany, where she focused on sustainable agriculture practices.
Natalie joined the Botany Department as a PhD student in March 2024. She is now a part of the BNIPASTURES project under a collaborative team at Teagasc and AgResearch in New Zealand. This project aims to reduce nitrous oxide emissions from ruminant systems through accelerating nitrification inhibition in ryegrass and plantain mixed pastures. Natalie’s focus is on identifying potent sources of biological nitrification inhibition (BNI) activity in Irish perennial ryegrass by developing high-throughput screening tools, as well as investigating the metabolic pathways and candidate genes associated with high BNI capacity.
