Luke Quill

Luke graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2022 with a B.A. in Biological and Biomedical Sciences, having specialised in Botany. Under the supervision of Dr. Carla Harper and Dr. Trevor Hodkinson, Luke's undergraduate thesis comprised of an investigation into the endophytic status of Brachypodium sylvaticum. This, alongside a previous desk study exploring the mycorrhizal status of Devonian plants from the Rhynie chert, inspired an interest in mycology and plant-fungal interactions.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are at the core of Luke's research interest. Currently, he is working as part of the NuReCycle team; a multi-disciplinary project that aims to protect water quality in Ireland by reducing agricultural runoff through nutrient control, recovery and recycling concepts. Luke is investigating a novel myco-phytoremediatory approach to reducing runoff through the use of AMF.

Luke's PhD is funded by the Kinsella Challenge-based E3 Multi-disciplinary Project Awards. This initiative strives to foster synergistic solutions to global challenges.
