Preparing your Modules for Academic Year 2025/26

Having completed the Ultra training, you are now encouraged to prepare Ultra modules that you will be teaching on/or supporting in the first term in the academic year 2025/26.

If you have completed training and need help migrating content or preparing your teaching modules for the next Academic year, then you can book a one-to-one support session by clicking below.

One to One Support Session for Migrating your 2025/26 Modules

If you taught/supported a teaching module in 2024/25 and are teaching/supporting that module again in 2025/26

We have created a blank container of that 2024/25 module in Ultra, in Ultra format, following this year's naming convention: i.e. each unique Blackboard Original Module for 2024/25: UNIQUE-MODULE-NAME-202425 has had an empty Blackboard Ultra Module: UNIQUE-MODULE-NAME-PLACEHOLDER created in Ultra.

All staff enrolled on the 2024/25 Blackboard Original Module have been automatically enrolled onto the Ultra PLACEHOLDER module.

This Blackboard Ultra placeholder module will automatically appear in the module list for each person enrolled on the module.

If you are planning on reusing content from your Blackboard Original module, please migrate that content into the Blackboard Ultra placeholder module.

Academic annual year rollover will occur as normal in July this year; this process, and timetabling activities in your School and the Central Timetabling Unit, determine what modules are available in Blackboard Ultra for academic year 2025/26. The empty container for your 2025/26 module, i.e. UNIQUE-MODULE-NAME-202526, will get provisioned in Blackboard Ultra after rollover and you will then be able to copy your prepared Ultra content from your placeholder module into your 202526 module.

Please note:

  • Some modules are taught/supported by multiple staff. Please ensure that you are locally coordinating will all relevant staff on your module prior to migrating content into the PLACEHOLDER module.
  • If administrative/other staff need access to a placeholder module to assist with the migration, then existing academic staff enrolled on the placeholder can enrol them on to the module OR complete the VLE Enrolment form (Excel) to request access and forward it to the Teaching & Learning IT team via itservicedesk@tcd.ie
  • Students have no access to the Blackboard Ultra placeholder modules.

Example: Staff enrolled onto the Blackboard Original taught module AN7104-202425 will now have access to and are enrolled on the empty Ultra AN7104-PLACEHOLDER module. They can migrate content from AN7104-202425, which is in Blackboard Original format, into AN7104-PLACEHOLDER, which is in Ultra format. After the Academic annual year rollover, the empty Ultra module AN7104-202526 will be created, and staff can then "roll over" (copy) content from their AN7104-PLACEHOLDER module into the AN7104-202526 module in preparation for the start of term.

If you are teaching/supported a teaching module in 2025/26 that was not taught in 2024/25

Academic annual year rollover occurs annually in July. This process, and timetabling activities in your School and the Central Timetabling Unit, determine what modules are available in Blackboard Ultra for academic year 2025/26.

If you would like to start preparing content for a module that will be taught in 2025/26 that was not taught in 2024/25, please find out the unique name of this module and contact us at blackboard.ultra@tcd.ie We can then prepare an empty placeholder module for you.
