Trinity Foundation Trustees

About our Trustees and Governance

Two committees oversee the governance of Trinity Foundation - the Trinity Foundation Trustees and the Trinity Foundation Audit & Risk Committee who assist the Trustees in fulfilling their function.

Trinity Foundation Trustees

Trustees retain ultimate responsibility for the strategic development of the organisation in close liaison with Trinity College Dublin’s Provost, Board, and Executive Officers. The Code of Practice for Trustees may be read below.

Trustees are Eddie Clarke, Tim Cody, Marie Collins (Chair), Claire Conroy, Professor Eleanor Denny and Professor Gerard Mc Hugh.

All of our Trustees and Committee members are volunteers giving their time, skills and expertise to help advance our mission.

Our Trustees

Marie Collins

Marie is a Chartered Director and holds a postgraduate in Corporate Governance from UCD and has over 20 years Board and Chairing experience in a range of sectors. She currently Chairs Home Building Finance Ireland DAC and is also Chair of Bank of Ireland Subsidiary, General Investment Trust DAC. She Chairs Dunnes Store PT ULC.

She is a lead tutor on the Institute of Directors Chartered Director Programme and runs her own governance consultancy company.

Eddie Clarke

Eddie was appointed as a Trustee in February 2020. Eddie has extensive experience for well over 25 years of advising and managing Irish private client and corporate wealth. Chief Executive and executive board director of Brewin Dolphin Ireland and former head of Investec Wealth & Investment Ireland, he has held a number of senior executive and board roles at NCB Group and Investec Ireland. Eddie is a graduate of the Trinity College Dublin Business School and a member of the Trinity Business Alumni Committee.

Tim Cody

Tim was appointed as a Trustee in February 2020. Tim leads Accenture’s Industrial business across the UK & Ireland and Accenture’s Products business in Ireland covering the Retail, Consumer Goods and Services, Mobility and Industrial, Travel and Life Sciences industries.

With over 27 years of consulting and client advisory experience, Tim has previously had multiple leadership roles across Accenture’s businesses in the UK and Ireland including leading the UK & Ireland Financial Services Management Consulting practice and the Management Consulting practice in Ireland covering all industry sectors.

A graduate of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering from Trinity College Dublin, he is actively involved in industry associations and policy groups in the UK Ireland and works with non-profit organisations in Ireland.

Professor Eleanor Denny

Eleanor was appointed as a Trustee in January 2023. She is Professor in Economics at the Economics Department at Trinity College Dublin, and a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin. In 2021 she was appointed as College Bursar and Director of Strategic Innovation.

Professor Gerard Mc Hugh

Gerard was appointed as a Trustee in January 2023. He is a Fellow of Trinity College, Associate Professor of Accounting, and University Dean of Development. Gerard qualified as a Certified Accountant with the Dublin Office of Deloitte. He is a former Dean of Trinity Business School and teaches accounting, financial analysis and financial reporting.

Claire Conroy

Claire was appointed as a Trustee in January 2023. She was appointed to the Trinity Foundation Audit & Risk Committee in 2019 and Chairs the Committee since January 2023.

Claire is currently responsible for Capital & Financial Management as well as Investment Management oversight at B-Flexion Fund Management (Ireland) Limited. Claire was previously a Senior Consultant at KB Associates from 2016 to 2021 where she advised investment managers on the establishment and ongoing compliance and operational requirements of Irish funds.

Prior to joining KB Associates, Claire worked with Davide Leone & Partners Investment Company LLP, a London based investment manager, where she was responsible for fund accounting and operations. Previously, she was part of the PwC Asset Management Group where she specialised in the audit of investment funds and fund service providers. Claire is a graduate of Trinity College’s Business School. She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and holds a Professional Certificate in Investment Fund Services Risk Management.

Code of Practice for Trustees

This code sets out the relevant standards and commitments for trustees of Trinity Development and Alumni (TDA). The purpose of the Code of Practice is to ensure consistent application of the values and ethos of TDA.

Values

Trustees uphold the values which underpin all of the activities of TDA:

Integrity and Respect

Trustees are guided by a core commitment to integrity and respect. Trustees inspire and sustain trust with Trinity College, TDA, donors, regulators and other stakeholders by communicating honestly, engaging respectfully, and acting ethically.

Excellence and Creativity

Trustees take pride in their roles and encourage creative thinking that can help TDA achieve its mission.

Collaboration and Shared Purpose and Pride

Trustees build excellent relationships at every level with colleagues, the Trinity academic community, Trinity alumni and supporters. Trustees harness effort and energy from across TDA community and channel it towards achieving TDA’s goals.

The Code

Responsibilities

  • Trustees act with probity, prudence and within the terms of the Trinity Foundation Trust Deed. Trustees may take professional advice where they deem it appropriate.
  • Trustees act in the best interest of TDA - considering what is best for the organisation and its beneficiaries.
  • Trustees comply with TDA’s Conflict of Interest policy by declaring and resolving conflicts of interest.
  • Trustees do not gain financial or other material benefit for themselves, their families or their friends from Trinity Development & Alumni.
  • Trustees do not place themselves under any obligation to outside individuals or organisations that might influence the performance of their roles as trustees.
  • Trustees respect the confidentiality of all TDA meetings and associated documentation.
  • Trustees maintain up-to-date knowledge of TDA and the environment within which it operates.
  • Trustees, in so far as is possible, attend and participate fully in all scheduled meetings. Apologies are noted.
  • Trustees bring an open mind to trustee deliberations so that decisions are made in TDA’s best interests.
  • Trustees make decisions collectively, and act jointly. A majority decision is observed by all.
  • Trustees respect the scope of authority delegated to the Director of Advancement. The trustees periodically review authority delegated to the Director of Advancement and approve new delegations as appropriate.
  • Where a trustee has a concern about the performance of TDA or of its senior officers, it should be addressed with the Chair in the first instance.
  • Where a trustee has a concern about possible financial irregularity in TDA this should be addressed with the Chair who will act in accordance with the University’s Fraud policy.
  • Trustees shall, at least once every two years, review their performance and their terms of reference and shall report their conclusions and recommendations to the Provost.
  • Trustees honour the content and spirit of this code.
