- A Teaching Philosophy Statement is a short reflective document in which you define, discuss, and clarify your perspectives on teaching and student learning.
- Teaching Philosophy Statements are typically used reflectively (e.g. for self-development) or for summative reasons (e.g. as part of an application portfolio affording evaluators insight into your ethos of teaching).
The first hour of this interactive workshop (1 – 2) provides attendees with an introduction to teaching philosophy statements (TPS). Colleagues are then supported to develop their own statement in response to a structured series of writing prompts, working both on their own and with their peers.
The optional second hour of the workshop (2 – 3) is held as a ‘writing retreat’ hour – colleagues are welcome to use this supervised writing time to further or finalise their own Teaching Philosophy Statement. Participants are supported to engage in constructive peer review of TPS at various points across the workshop.
