New and updated Academic Policies and Procedures for 2024/25
- Academic Integrity Policy – this is a new Policy, replacing the Plagiarism Policy, which outlines the obligations of staff and students in relation to academic integrity, and points to the supporting procedures and resources that can be found on the Academic Affairs Academic Integrity webpage e.g. the Academic Integrity Form and calculator, instructions on how to record a breach of academic integrity on SITS, how to view previous instances of academic misconduct in SITS etc.
- Procedure in cases of suspected Academic Misconduct – this new Procedure supports the Academic Integrity Policy, and details the steps to be taken when academic misconduct is suspected.
- Attendance Regulations and Procedures for completing a report on Non-Satisfactory Student Attendance – the existing Procedures and the associated report form have been simplified, and the timelines and process to be followed for submitting a report on non-satisfactory student attendance have been clarified. The relevant Calendar Part II regulations (pg 32) have also been updated - for example, the rule that “students may be deemed non-satisfactory if they miss more than a third of their course of study in any term” has been removed and the requirement for programmes and schools to provide clear direction as to attendance expectations has been strengthened.
- Programme Handbook Policy and handbook templates – this Policy was first developed in 2018 to encourage a more consistent approach to the production of programme handbooks, and is reviewed annually to make sure that it’s fit-for-purpose. In 2023/24, the Policy (including Appendix 1 - suggested core content for Programme handbooks) was updated to include, amongst other things, reference to generative AI, the new Academic Integrity Policy and Procedures, and the introduction of Postgraduate taught research models arising from the Postgraduate renewal programme.
- Programme and Curriculum Design and Approval Policy – this Policy was first developed in 2016 and has been updated with a detailed outline (attached to the Policy as Appendix 1) of the approval process for programme and curriculum changes (e.g. modules, strands, subjects, programmes, micro-credentials).
