Development of New Trinity Electives
This page provides comprehensive guidelines for the development of new Trinity Electives. For detailed information on the approval processes, please refer to the Programme and Curriculum Design and Approval Policy document. When developing new Trinity Electives, please take inspiration from the current Trinity Electives offering and ensure your module does not overlap with existing electives.
Development Process
- Initial Contact: Proposers must email an overview of the proposed Trinity Elective to Ellen Kampinga at tesubcommittee@tcd.ie. This ensures the proposal does not overlap with existing electives.
- Approval to Proceed: The Chair of the Trinity Elective Sub-Committee (TESC) reviews the overview. If approved, Academic Affairs provides the necessary proposal templates.
- Proposal Development: Proposers must:
- Align the proposal with the objectives of Trinity Electives and provide opportunities for students to develop the Trinity Graduate Attributes.
- Appoint a principal named module coordinator and a secondary academic contact from Schools/TRIs/Trinity-led National Research Centres to oversee development, delivery, assessment, and quality. The principal module coordinator will act as the Host School.
- Obtain sign-off from the Head of the named host School and other participating Schools, committing to deliver the elective for at least four years.
- Submission for Approval: Proposals are submitted to the School Executive Committees and then to Academic Affairs two weeks before the TESC meeting.
- Evaluation by TESC: The TESC evaluates proposals, ensuring coherence and quality. Feedback is provided, and proposers may need to resubmit based on this feedback. The Programme and Curriculum Design and Approval Policy PDF can be found at the bottom of this section for detailed approval steps.
- Final Approval: Proposals meeting the criteria are brought to the Undergraduate Studies Committee (USC) for approval. If approved, they are noted at Council and formally approved.
- Go-Live Preparation: Write website copy and shoot Trinity Elective Pitch video.
