Update from Secretary to College, Interim Chief Operating Officer, Director of College Health Services and Vice Provost / Chief Academic Officer to staff and students
16 March 2022
Dear College community
We hope you are looking forward to the extended St Patrick’s public holiday weekend. For many of us, it will involve increased social contacts. However, there is also a significant risk that we could come into contact with COVID-19.
Unfortunately, the incidence of COVID-19 in the community is high at the moment. More than 31,000 cases have been detected and recorded in the past three days alone and over 1,040 people are in hospital with the virus.
If you get COVID-19 and must self-isolate over the next 2-4 weeks because of higher circulating levels of the virus after this long weekend, the timing could be problematic. This is especially the case for students on clinical and other placements and in the run up to exams.
We would like to remind you that mask wearing is still advised on public transport. We encourage you to consider wearing masks in very crowded indoor settings.
Please continue staying safe - the best way to do this is to ensure you are fully vaccinated and have your booster, and to maintain basic hand and respiratory hygiene. Please do not come to work/college if you are displaying any signs of symptoms of COVID-19, and self-isolate as per the public health guidelines if necessary. Don’t forget that twice-weekly antigen testing continues to be available to all through UniCov.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Stay safe. Stay well. Bígí slán agus sábháilte.
Happy St Patrick’s Day. Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh.
Kind regards,
John Coman, Secretary to the College
