Update from College Secretary and Director, College Health Service to students and staff

Dear students and colleagues

Next week will see onsite vaccinations starting for certain cohorts of the College community. This is very positive news that the HSE has identified Trinity as an onsite vaccination centre - please see this email of 19 April for information on the categories involved.

Extended Library opening hours

To support our students as they finish assignments and prepare for their assessments, there will be further reopening of the Library from next Monday, 26 April as follows:

  • The Berkeley, Lecky, Ussher Complex and the Hamilton Library open 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday, with counter services 11am-3pm (from the end of assessments on Monday 24 May, opening hours will be 9.30am-5pm, Monday to Friday)
  • Kinsella Hall (floors 1-3 of the Ussher Library)
    • Monday to Friday
      • 9am-4pm, access via Berkeley Library entrance
      • 4-5pm, security changeover (no access)
      • 5pm-10pm, access via external door on Ussher podium
    • Weekends: 8am-10pm, access via external door on Ussher podium
  • John Stearne Medical Library open 9.30am-4pm, Monday to Friday
  • 1937 Reading Room remains on current hours, 8am-10pm, Monday to Sunday (for postgraduate students)
  • The Joint Research Collections (Manuscripts & Archives and Early Printed Books) Reading Room in the Old Library will be open two days per week on Tuesday and Thursday by appointment, between 10.30am-12.15pm and 1.15pm – 3pm.  Click for further details.
  • The Map Library will be open two afternoons per week by appointment: Tuesdays and Thursdays 2pm-3.45pm.

Pre-booking a study space or visit is essential. This schedule will remain in place over the summer, supporting our researchers, through to the beginning of the new academic year. For more information, please refer to the Librarian’s email.

Trinity Monday – 26 April

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, the announcement of Fellows and Scholars on Trinity Monday will be live-streamed at 10am. This will be followed by the Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving at 10.30am with the address being delivered by the Archbishop of Dublin, Dermot Farrell. Then the Trinity Monday Memorial Discourse commemorating Noël Browne will be given by Trinity graduate and Tánaiste Leo Varadkar T.D. at 11.30am.

These three events can be viewed online here. Viewing by livestream is the preferred method for staff and student participation as it may not be possible to maintain social distancing if there are many people in Front Square. If you do come to Front Square please take full account of the need to maintain social distancing. Please see the Provost’s email regarding Trinity Monday here.

Access to campus

The Science Gallery entrance on Pearse Street will reopen on Monday 26 April and can be used to gain access to campus in addition to the Lincoln Place Gate and the Nassau Street Entrances. Opening times will be Monday to Friday, 6.30am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday, 8am – 7pm.

Please remember that all staff and students must present a valid ID card to swipe in on arrival and swipe out on departure. The campus is still open to the following: residents; essential researchers (as submitted by Head of School/Unit); students with pre-booked time slot in the Libraries/Study Spaces/The Buttery; students with a timetabled in person teaching event; essential staff (as submitted by Head of School/Unit); and pre-approved visitors.

Book a slot for take away food from The Buttery

From next Monday, students may access the main campus for the purpose of purchasing food to take away from The Buttery and take advantage of the 50% discount available when paying with your T-card. To do so you will need to book a timeslot here in order to show security staff to gain access to the campus. If you are on campus for another purpose you do not need to book a time slot. If you arrive during peak times of 12.30-1.30pm you can expect a queue at The Buttery. Unfortunately, as the country remains at Level 5 with indoor dining not permitted in The Buttery this is a takeaway service only.

Thank you for your ongoing support in taking all preventative measures on campus and at home to stop the spread of the virus to keep one another safe. These include hand washing, cough etiquette, face coverings and physical distancing. It is making a difference.
