With ongoing rapid erosion of global biodiversity, it is critical that increasing our reliance on renewable energy does not increase pressures on biodiversity. The wind energy sector has been expanding rapidly, achieving the largest sectoral growth compared to other renewable technologies in 2021 (IEA, 2022). Future growth will require broad land-use changes to accommodate new renewable infrastructure, but this also needs to balance maintaining and managing space for biodiversity. I am interested in accounting for the biodiversity that surrounds onshore windfarms, and developing tools to improve measuring, monitoring, and management of biodiversity at windfarms.
