Who in Ireland speaks and understands Russian? An investigation into cultural and linguistic diversity.
What is this reseach about?
This is a research project on cultural and linguistic diversity, drawing on the experience of people in Ireland who speak and understand Russian.
Why focus on people who speak and understand Russian?
This group has brought to Ireland a considerable wealth of experience of living in a multicultural and multilinguistic environment. Ireland can learn from you.
Why is this research being conducted?
This research will enable us to play an active part in understanding the present in order to help us plan for all our futures.
Why participate?
- to learn something about yourself
- to contribute to discussions on the fate we imagine for our languages in Ireland
- to contribute to providing as comprehensive a picture as possible
- to help inform and influence language, educational and integration policy in Ireland
How can you participate?
By answering a survey in English or Russian, on line or in the paper version. It will take you 10-15 minutes to complete the 28 questions.
You may also, if you wish, take part in the collection of life stories and in focus groups.
What will be done with the data you supply?
Responses will be used for research purposes only. Responses are anonymous and therefore confidential. You will not be identified or identifiable.

A research team in the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies in Trinity College, Dublin.
Who is funding this research?
This research is being funded by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences.
How will the results be shared?
The results will be published on this web page, in the Irish media and in academic publications.
