We are Spaniards in the same way that we are Europeans … we Catalans are Spanish … as citizens of that political society. We are not, then, enemies of Spain, taken in this (the only real) sense, nor, when we oppose it, do we seek anything other than to refashion it with equity and justice, with a more appropriate perfect structure within which Catalonia can find a life of freedom and progress.
