The Department of Hispanic Studies will run European Portuguese language and culture courses. These courses are developed in accordance with the provisions of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) at the following levels:

All the classes will take place on College campus in Dublin city centre. Learners will receive venue information closer to the course commencement dates.

Beginners – Level A1: Tuesdays 6:30pm-8:30pm

This course gives learners a basic knowledge of Portuguese language, culture, and contemporary society. Students should learn to make themselves understood in everyday conversational situations and be able to read and write simple Portuguese texts.

Beginners – Level A2: Wednesdays 6:30pm-8:30pm

This course is offered to learners who already have the required basic knowledge of Portuguese grammar and some communicative competence – it aims to develop their communicative capabilities in all language areas through the study of culture.

Intermediate – Level B1: Thursdays 6:30pm-8:30pm

This course is offered to learners who have already gained elementary knowledge of Portuguese or completed the beginners’ courses. The aim is to reinforce and further develop students’ linguistic and cultural knowledge.

Duration and Fee:

Each course runs for 22 weeks (2 hours once a week) spread over two terms – autumn (starting late September) and winter/ spring (starting January).

Course fees are €660 for 22-week course. Payment by instalments of €350 per term is also possible. This fee is non-refundable once the course has commenced.

In the event of the course cancellation due to insufficient numbers of applicants, fees will be refunded in full.
