Research Expertise
Description
I am a research-active scholar, and my multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research spans multimodal communications, African and Francophone studies, applied linguistics, and pedagogic developments. A key criterion for my promotion to Reader (equivalent of Professor In) in 2018 was using evidence-based practice to enhance learner engagement and achievement. In the conferment letter, the Vice Chancellor of Leeds Beckett acting as Chair of the Senior Promotion Board praised my sustained excellence in teaching and innovative contributions, linking research to teaching practices. I have authored and co-authored books on public service interpreting, cultural diversity, Francophone studies, critical discourse analysis, and self-directed learning. Additionally, I have co-edited journal special issues, and published peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, conference proceedings, book reviews, and reflections. As Director of Research for five years, I designed and implemented an ambitious research and enterprise strategy aimed at building critical mass through mentorship and enhancing collaborative practice in higher education. I have successfully secured funding for various research projects from national and international bodies and private agencies. I actively participate in professional bodies, and hold memberships of research groups, committees, associations, international peer review teams, and editorial boards of international journals.Recognition
