The French department is part of the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies, which is ranked 39th in the world by the QS World University Rankings. As an undergraduate student you can study French as part of the Joint Honours Programme, where it combines with another subject from a wide range of disciplines. We also offer distinct honours degree courses in Business Studies and French, European Studies, Law and French, and Computer Science and Language. The department has the oldest chair of French in the world (1776) and the Nobel prize winner Samuel Beckett is one of it most famous alumni.
