Students visit Marsh's Library
The students from Ema Vyroubalová's sophister option Early Modern Women Writers visited Marsh's Library in December 2017. The highlight of the visit were definitely seventeenth-century editions of works by Katherine Philips and Margaret Cavendish, whom we had covered on the module. We also looked at other books related to the lives of women in the early modern period from the library's collections and got to ask more general questions about the production and preservation of early modern books. We learnt, for instance, that the paper most of these books were printed on was much resistant to tearing and water damage than its modern-day equivalent! In the photo the students are posing with some of the books and with the Librarian Maria O'Shea, who led our session.
