To mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Maria Edgeworth, the School of English, the Long Room Hub, and the National Library of Ireland will host a conference examining her life and writing across its full range and scope. As well as papers that address Edgeworth’s innovative writing for the young, her essays on education and her ambitious and original novels, there will also be papers that discuss the wider intellectual, social and political world of the Edgeworth family.

To celebrate the 250th anniversary of her birth, the RDS Library is hosting an exhibition on Maria Edgeworth. Based on the RDS Edgeworth collection it will give insight into Edgeworth as an educator and successful novelist. http://www.rds.ie/Whats-On/Event/36661
On the evening of the 6th December, the Royal Irish Academy celebrates Maria Edgeworth’s sesquicentenary. Edgeworth was an honorary member of the Academy, which marks her 250th birthday with a panel that foregrounds contemporary Irish women writers across the literary genres. Speakers include Marina Carr, Eiléan Ni Chuilleanáin, Eiis Ni Dhuibhne, Claire Kilroy and Margaret Kelleher. The event will be introduced by Claire Connolly MRIA and a reception will follow.
