LADY GREGORY’S WAKE
Three students from the M.Phil. in Creative Writing in the Trinity Oscar Wilde Centre – Anne McDonald, Suzzanna Matthews and Samuel Tobin – recently collaborated with composition students from the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Westland Row, to develop and write a short opera. From start to finish the project took place during a single week, and took the form of intensive workshops, under the supervision of the composer Stephen McNeff. The resulting opera, ‘Lady Gregory’s Wake’, was performed on the Friday evening. We are grateful to Professor Kevin O’Connell of RIAM for proposing this initiative, and for giving our students this wonderful opportunity. See video of performance below.
