Module Content
This module introduces students to the principal theoretical perspectives involved in research design, fieldwork, data analysis and the ethical considerations in research. Students will also receive training in referencing, academic writing, proposal writing and the presentation of their work. Students will learn the skills of critical reading and review. Students are expected to formulate their dissertation research topic within this module, develop a research schedule and select appropriate methods for their dissertation.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
MLO8.1 Critically evaluate research in economics across a broad range of fields
MLO8.2 Compare different research techniques and approaches
MLO8.3 Critique papers in economics and apply this to their dissertation
MLO8.4 Clearly communicate their ideas and present them effectively
MLO8.5 Plan a comprehensive dissertation which will connect closely with the MSc course
Assessment Details
Continuous assessment [100%]: This will involve a practical application of material studied during the module and the presentation of research proposals for dissertations.
