Molecular Systematics and Endophyte Biology

Our research team is lead by Prof Trevor Hodkinson, a molecular systematist and leader of the Botany Molecular Laboratory. We are particularly interested in using phylogenetic and population genetic approaches in taxonomy, genetic resource activities and comparative biology. Prof Hodkinson has a specialist knowledge of grasses and forest trees with particular interest in their fungal endophytic symbionts (endophytes), and a strong interest in genetic resource characterisation and prebreeding of forage grasses and non-food crops.
